From tips on how to unwind to unearthing new experiences, we’ve put together a guide to help you make the most of a staycation.
Book in your holiday reads
First things first, organise your holiday reading. If you’re staycationing, a great book can transport you almost anywhere. It’s a one-way ticket to an exciting quest, holiday romance or exciting adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat. Visit a local bookstore and browse the shelves to pick the perfect read.
Line up a relaxing local treat
The trick to truly feeling like you’re on holiday, no matter where you are, is to treat yourself. Organise a little local luxury you wouldn’t usually indulge in while at home. It could be a massage Li’s Massage, a manicure at Villa Nails & Beauty, a new haircut at Ultimate hair Room, or simply a sweet treat from Donut King.
Open your own at-home restaurant
Follow the pop-up restaurant fad and create your own eatery! Think of the foods you love eating on holiday and shop for meals and ingredients at your favourite stores. Think delicious croissants and baguettes for a French breakfast, fresh veggies and wonton wrappers for home-style yum cha, or bratwurst and smoked ham for a hearty German dinner all from Woolworths. Then, give everyone in your family a role – chef, waiter, food critic – and enjoy eating in with a special staycation twist.
Shop local ‘til you drop
In true holiday style, take yourself to the shops to browse the latest holiday fashion trends. Enjoy some window shopping or even freshen up your staycation look with a visit to local, on-trend stores Beachworx, Big W or Best and Less.
Indulge in the goodies at your doorstep
The beauty of a staycation is that you get to discover tasty local eateries you’ve never visited. You could treat the family to a long lunch Mandy’s, a fresh juice from Luv a Coffee, or even a decadent three-course dinner (at LOCAL RETAILER). Don’t be afraid to go all out – after all, you’re on holidays!
Wind down with some downward facing dog
It can be hard to find time for exercise in your daily schedule – use your staycation to enjoy some at-home yoga. Not only will it help you relax and wind down, it will also give you some much needed ‘me’ time (as well as a host of other handy health benefits!). If you need gear or equipment to help get you yoga-ready, you can add a sports store (like LOCAL RETAILER) to your holiday shopping trip.
Snap the perfect pics
Just because you’re holidaying at home doesn’t mean there aren’t scenes worth snapping! Grab your camera or phone and hit the streets. Is there a beautiful garden nearby? Some cool street art? A lovely house? A colourful mural? Grab the family and go on your own photography tour, before turning it into an album full of staycation adventures.
